The Donald Trump government is contemplating imposing travel bans on citizens of a number of countries, news agency Reuters said, quoting an official internal note.

A US official informed the condition of anonymity, that the list

was provisional and might be modified later, since it had not been approved yet by US secretary of state Marco Rubio. One of the US officials, who requested anonymity, told that the list was only temporary and was subject to changes later on because it was still awaiting the endorsement of US secretary of state Marco Rubio.

The memo identifies 41 nations as subject to the potential travel ban in three categories:

complete suspension of visas, partial suspension of visas that would impact tourists, students and some other categories of visas, and partial suspension for nations if they correct some "deficiencies."
Donald Trump during his first term in office had placed a travel ban on seven Islamic nations, which had been confirmed by the Supreme Court. Subsequently, the order was later revoked by former President Biden, referring to it as a stain on the "political conscience" of the country. On January 20, Trump also issued an executive order requesting tighter security screening for foreign nationals who want to enter the US, with the aim of detecting potential national security risks.
